Installation Within a Roadway
For some regions it is preferable to have services installed within the roadway. This means that trucks, grading, and rolling equipment must traverse over the manhole installation.
With the help of contractors in the Queenstown region, AML have developed an installation method that may be suitable to aid the road construction process, and help avoid the risk of damage to manholes.
This method involves the manhole being installed to a shallower depth than typical. The manhole is backfilled, throat of the cone is trimmed, and the pre-cast load distribution ring (LDR) is then applied. Onto the LDR is fitted a flat steel plate, which takes up minimal height, and helps to support any applied loads. The level of this steel plate is approximately 345mm below the finished lid level. The base course can then be prepared over the manhole installation.
Once the road preparation is complete, and it is time to fit the manhole cover, the steel plate can be excavated and concrete adjustment rings applied to bring up the cover level.
This method provides an effective throat depth of 470 – 594mm.
To enable this method, please inform AML at time of quotation. We will allow for risers in a smaller 125mm step to ensure the minimum throat depth. We will also provide supporting information for each manhole to guide the installation process.
