Trafficability
ROMOLD manhole chamber installations provide fully trafficable solutions, and are accepted by NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi for use in the road corridor.
The system achieves this through a combination of a stiff and secure injection moulded manhole chamber, compacted granular fill surrounding the chamber, and a pre-cast concrete load distribution ring directly below the ductile iron cover.
Whilst the chamber is tested to withstand a Class B loading on it’s own, the load distribution ring helps to spread traffic loading into the backfill surrounding the chamber, reducing the applied forces.
With a concrete manhole chamber the traffic loading is transmitted through the chamber all the way to be the base. Having a load distribution ring at the top of the assembly decouples this loading from the chamber making it act more in the manner of the road surface, reducing the risk of the chamber sinking over time, or the road surface settling and leaving the manhole cover proud.
ROMOLD manhole chambers are tested and approved to the EN 13598-2 standard. As part of this testing a traffic loading test is conducted to Class E, exceeding New Zealand’s HN-HO-72 requirement. ROMOLD manhole chambers are back rated to Class D, suitable for heavy traffic loading.
